Embracing Change: My Perimenopause Journey

Dear Guilt Free Food Family,

I hope this message finds you well and filled with the same excitement and passion for health and wellness that has always defined this community. Today, I come to you with a new chapter in my own journey—a journey that has led me to a deeper understanding of my body, my health, and the power of open dialogue.

Five years ago, after welcoming my second daughter into the world, I noticed subtle changes in my energy levels and overall well-being. Like many mothers, I chalked it up to the demands of motherhood, the inevitable toll of late nights and early mornings spent caring for my little ones. But three years ago, things took a turn for the unexpected.

I found myself grappling with massive hair loss, to the point where I felt a pang of fear every time I reached for the shampoo bottle. The once-vibrant crown that had been my pride and joy was now thinning before my eyes, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss.

It wasn't until I stumbled upon a book called "The Hormone Fix" by Anna Cabeca that the pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place. Suddenly, I realized that this wasn't just about motherhood—it was about something much bigger, much more profound.

I was entering a new phase of life—one that is all too often shrouded in silence and secrecy: perimenopause. Despite the prevalence of this transitional stage, neither at home nor within my social circle did anyone speak openly about the changes and challenges that accompany perimenopause. It took me far too long to connect the dots, to recognize the signs of hormonal upheaval manifesting in my own body:

  • Hair loss
  • Shorter menstrual cycles
  • Headaches
  • Mood swings
  • Fatigue
  • Weight gain

But I refuse to let these symptoms define me. Instead, I've made it my mission to embrace this new chapter with open arms and a steadfast determination to reclaim my health and vitality.

That's why I'm thrilled to announce the launch of my new Instagram account, @joycechungsb. Through this platform, I'll be sharing my own experiences, insights, and tips about navigating the rollercoaster ride of perimenopause. It's my hope that by opening up this dialogue, we can break down the barriers of silence and stigma surrounding perimenopause and empower one another to embrace change with grace and resilience.

Together, let's pave the way for a brighter, healthier future—one guilt-free bite at a time.

With love and keep rolling,

Joyce
