Best Lactation Cookie (less sugar) for nursing mothers
This is probably one of the best Lactation Cookie recipes around! I have used them personally to increase milk production when I was nursing both my daughters (exclusive breastfeed for 6 months with Siena and 12 months for Venezia). They are tasty and functional plus easy to make. I still bake them often for my family (husband and daughters) cos they nutritious and tasty. I promise you that this is an easy dessert recipe that helps increase milk production in nursing moms with added ingredients like coconut milk, flax meal, Brewer’s yeast, and oatmeal!
Ingredients:
2 cups old fashioned oats
4 tablespoons Grounded flax seeds
2 tablespoon chia seeds
1/2 cup coconut milk or water
6 tablespoons coconut oil
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup debittered brewer’s yeast
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 cup old fashioned oats
2/3 cup cranberries
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Pour the 2 cups of oats into a blender, and process them into a fine flour. (Don’t take the blender lid off right away– set the blender aside while the flour settles.)
In a large bowl combine the ground flax seeds with the coconut milk or water, and stir well to mix. Add in the coconut oil, brown sugar, debittered brewer’s yeast, vanilla, baking soda, and salt, and stir again until well combined. Gradually stir in the oat flour until a dough is formed, then fold in the 1/2 cup of oats and raisins
Drop the dough by heaping tablespoons (or ice cream scope) onto the lined baking sheet, then use your fingers to flatten the cookies.
Bake cookies at 12-15min.
These cookies will soften if stored in an airtight container at room temperature, so recommend storing them in the fridge or freezer for best texture and shelf life.
The effects from the lactation cookies will likely be different for everyone and some may not see an increase at all. In my case, I started seeing a gradual supply increase in about 24 to 36 hours after eating my first cookie. I started by eating 5-10 cookies per day and once my milk supply was where I wanted it, I cut back.
Do note that I am not a medical professional and if you have serious concerns about your milk supply, please seek out a lactation consultant to make sure there isn’t a larger issue.
Also, please note that lactation treats or food of any kinds have not been scientifically proven to increase supply.
